🌅 When the Day Slips Into Too Much Television
There are days when time seems to move differently.
You sit down to watch something… just for a little while.
And before you know it, a few hours have passed.
I’ve had days like that.
Sometimes it starts with good intentions.
A quiet morning.
A cup of coffee.
Just one show.
But then one turns into two. And then into more and before I know it have the day is gone.
🌿 Noticing Without Judging
It’s easy to feel a little frustrated on those days.
To think:
“I should have done something more.”
But instead of judging it, I’ve been trying to simply notice it.
To gently ask:
What was I needing today?
Sometimes, it’s rest. Sometimes it’s comfort. Sometimes it’s just an easy way to pass time when I have nothing else to do. And sometimes it’s because I need to have sound in my house.
🌿 A Gentle Shift
What I’ve found helpful is not trying to eliminate those days completely…
But gently shifting them.
Maybe after one episode, I pause.
Stand up.
Stretch.
Walk around the house.
(Here in Wisconsin, especially in the colder months, that “house walk” becomes a real thing.)
Sometimes I’ll turn the television off for a little while and sit with a cup of coffee.
Or open my journal.
Or simply look out the window.
🌿 Bringing Awareness Back to the Day
The goal isn’t to be perfect.
It’s just to bring a little awareness back into the day.
To choose, even in small ways, how I want to spend my time.
🌅 One Small Step
If you find your day slipping into too much television sometimes…
You’re not alone.
Maybe this week, just try one small pause.
After one show, ask yourself:
What would feel good right now?
And see where that leads. We don’t have to change everything. But getting back to balance may feel better. If you have struggled with watching too much television what are some ways you’ve found to fill your days? Do you like to read, paint, journal, cook, clean, garden or do you have other hobbies? Let me know! Thank you for reading and being a part of this journey!! We are in it together. Love, Maryanne.
And remember…
Right where you are is okay.
